The trip to Kershaw was...exciting?! We arrived late on Friday and began to set up our site for camping and got the karts ready for the first practice on Saturday. We came from a late winter storm of 20.5 inches of snow, so it was difficult to prepare everything at home.
We camped in the trailer to save a little money. Everything was going well. And Kershaw has wireless internet and electric, so we were in good shape.
Saturday, we hit the new layout of Kershaw. It was a much better track design. It was also a little slick and bumpy.
Saturday's race was Jack in 385 and Bryce in 335. Bryce came in from the second practice after dying at the end of the straight. We thought it was a carb and changed it out. But he was not able to get started at the start of the race. (Afterwards, we found he had thrown a rocker in the last practice). I, Jack, started well and ran right up to third, behind two top drivers. On lap two of the 15 lap (30 minute) race, I lost my clutch bolt and then the chain.
After the race on Saturday it began to get gloomy. We got the stuff put away as much as possible and began to get ready to camp in the trailer again. Then it hit! Rain, wind and tornadoes. We lost the canopy almost immediately. As soon as we got a break, we put the karts away and unhooked the trailer. We then headed to Lancaster to seek shelter in a hotel. When we got there, we were subjected with tornado warnings and touchdowns all evening long around us. When we returned on Sunday, we found the track intact, but debris and trees everywhere.
Sunday's races were delayed after attempts to dry and clean the track. We were the first race, so the track was pretty green. Jack and Bryce ran together in 360. Bryce's setup was not the best so he was pretty loose throughout the race. Jack ran up to the front off a great start and settled in a 3rd. A 360 spin on the back straight put him back to 7th. At the beginning of the second lap, the kart in front of him spun and flipped, causing a red flag. The driver was shaked but all right. The decision was to run a shortened race with a complete restart. During the rest of the race, Jack ran up in fifth, then fourth place, taking turns with the third place kart of Chris Moore. The kart tightened up at the end and he finished fourth. This was the first trophy in a WKA National event for the Reall Racing team.
Kershaw continues to be a thorn in Bryce's side as he struggles here. We had fun, and look forward to returning next year.

Daytona Results
The Reall Racing Team returned from Daytona with moderate successes under their belts. On Friday, 12/28, they arrived for practice after working all day Thursday to prep the karts. During Friday's practice, we found that we were off the pace a little bit and worked on gearing.
After much despair, we got assistance from the Vehrings of 4CycleCentral. They assisted us with scaling of the karts and getting the gearing close. We then tried one of their motors to see if our motors were the problem.
On Saturday, we picked up some time in practice and prepared for the races. Bryce would start in Animal 335# class, with Jack running Animal 385#. Both classes would run the track at the same time, separated by a 10 second delayed start time. Bryce ran well and finished in the top ten, only to be penalized in post race tech for a bodywork infraction. Jack stayed out of trouble early in the packed field and finished 6th.
On Sunday, excited from the success the day before, and with the bodywork issues fixed; we prepared for the race. Today, we would be race group number 1 with all the Animal racers from the previous day in one class. Starting with 38 Animals on the Grid was more than we had experienced before. During the 30 minute timed race, very few incidents occured on the track allowing almost all the Animal Racers to finish. In the end, Jack and Bryce ran the last half of the race together with the lead going back and forth. Coming out of turn 4 on the final lap, Bryce made a move to the outside and passed Jack. Jack dove low and picked up the draft of another Karter to squeeze by Bryce at the line by .032 seconds.

Reall's Prepare for 2008 WKA National Road Racing Season
The Karts are Ready, the Hotel arrangements are made, the registration has been mailed. Christmas in Daytona Beach, Florida...what else could be better. How about running the same race track that is used by the great drivers in the 24 Hours of Daytona? That's right, the 2008 World Karting Association Dunlop National Road Racing Series season begins at Daytona International Speedway. Jack and Bryce will be running their Bear-Powered Animals on the TS Racing Customized PT-4 Sprint Enduro Karts in an effort to bring home some trophies. The karts should reach a top speed of 97 mph during the 30 minute race at the historic track.
